The New England Patriots have filed a lawsuit against a ticket resale
Web site, claiming violations of Massachusetts ticket-scalping laws.
In addition to StubHub.com, the suit lists as defendants a man and
woman who allegedly resold invalid season tickets through the site and
50 unnamed season ticket holders, the Boston Globe reported Thursday.
Massachusetts bans the sale of tickets to concerts or sporting events
for more than $2 above face value. But tickets to popular events often
turn up on sites like StubHub for hundreds of dollars more.
The Patriots say some of the tickets sold that way have been
invalidated because the holders have been caught scalping or because
of unruly behavior at a game. Buyers find out only when they arrive at
the stadium that their tickets are worthless.
The lawsuit could lead Massachusetts legislators to reconsider the
ticket-scalping ban. Many states have legalized ticket resales,
arguing that they allow fans to see those events they are willing to
pay for. |
